Lombardy has recently announced its intention to invest in Artificial Intelligence to enhance sustainable tourism, during the GatewAI conference held at the Bergamo Fair. The Tourism Councilor, Barbara Mazzali, highlighted that in 2024 the region recorded 53.5 million overnight stays, marking a significant increase of 10% compared to the previous year. This achievement demonstrates Lombardy’s attractiveness and drives the adoption of innovative technologies to effectively and sustainably manage this growth.
Mazzali explained how AI can be utilized to analyze tourists’ behavioral data, allowing for personalized offerings and dynamic pricing management. The establishment of the Observatory for Tourism and Attractiveness represents a crucial step in data collection and analysis, aimed at guiding regional policies. The region is also implementing support measures for businesses in the sector, thus promoting a transition towards an increasingly digitalized and competitive tourism landscape.
