Lombardy Launches Carnivore Oversight Committee to Enhance Monitoring and Prevention
Lombardy has established the Big Carnivores Steering Committee to coordinate the management, monitoring, and prevention of damages caused by large predators. The committee, led by Regional Councillor Gianluca Comazzi, held its inaugural meeting and includes representatives from regional departments, environmental agencies, national parks, provincial police, and local organizations.
The committee’s responsibilities include developing guidelines, operational protocols, and technical standards for regional governance. A new mobile app has been introduced to enable real-time reporting of predator sightings and tracks, contributing to a shared database. Additionally, a consultation table will be formed to facilitate dialogue with environmental groups, hunters, farmers, and other stakeholders.
