The Lombardy Region has recently taken a significant step for itinerant tourism by introducing a regulatory definition for camper service areas and allocating specific funds to improve the infrastructure dedicated to campers. This measure, the result of the work of regional councilors Maira Cacucci (Brothers of Italy) and Claudia Carzeri (Forza Italia), has been included in regional law no. 27/2015 and stipulates that these areas are to be exclusively dedicated to providing essential services such as electricity supply and wastewater disposal.
With the aim of expanding the equipped areas for campers, the two councilors also presented a resolution during the budget forecast in December, committing the Region to collaborate with municipalities to identify these facilities. With over 1.2 million campers welcomed in 2023 and an estimated economic impact of 150 million euros, the project aims to promote sustainable tourism and create new economic opportunities for local communities, thus responding to the growing needs of an increasingly mobile audience.
