Due to the record heatwave affecting Lombardy, President Attilio Fontana has signed an urgent ordinance to ensure the safety of workers most exposed to high temperatures. This measure, resulting from a meeting with trade unions and employers, will take effect from 00:01 on Wednesday, July 2, until September 15, and prohibits outdoor activities between 12:30 PM and 4 PM in construction sites, quarries, farms, and horticultural businesses, limited to days with “High” risk.
Fontana emphasized the importance of protecting workers’ health during periods of intense heat, turning previous recommendations into a concrete measure. The ordinance also refers to the ‘Guidelines for the protection of workers from heat and solar radiation,’ approved by the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces. Urgent and public utility activities are exempt from the ban, provided that all necessary preventive measures are adhered to.
