Lugana DOC Included in Michelin Red Guide’s Top Italian Wines

With its 44th edition, recently on sale, the legendary Guida Rossa Italia by Michelin also includes Lugana DOC on its map of Italy’s most important wines.

This inclusion is not accidental, as Lugana DOC has long been highly appreciated worldwide — for centuries by popes and kings alike — recognizing the growing and consistent professionalism of the producers of this wondrous nectar of Bacchus produced on the banks of Lake Garda.

The richness of Italian regional cuisine

It’s impossible to talk about a single Italian national cuisine, but instead, a wealth of regional cuisines exists. To assist your choice — as the Michelin Guide states in its introductions — the map below indicates, alongside each region, the most renowned dishes of easier access and the best-known wines; we leave the pleasure of describing their characteristics to restaurateurs.

Foods and wines from the same region often form a perfect pairing. For example, among the regional wines of Lombardy, Lugana ranks among the three recommended white wines, followed by three red wines and two sparkling wines.

Overall, the Italian wines highlighted by the Michelin Red Guide for all Italy number 114, including the Lugana DOC in this edition.

Restaurant guides and the current edition

Talking about and praising this Guide, a pioneer among all sector-specific restaurant and top hospitality guides, is no longer necessary — its reputation has been established for over forty years worldwide.

Instead, it’s worth mentioning that the current edition features 4,125 hotels and 3,365 restaurants, selected with absolute seriousness and professionalism by industry experts, instead of an obligation.

In this edition, 598 establishments have been removed, while 516 new entries have been added. Regarding dining establishments, only 3 in Italy boast the coveted three Michelin stars; 16 have two stars, and 206 have one star.

One of these one-star establishments (which in the Guide terminology signifies excellent cuisine), accompanied by two forks indicating good comfort, is shining right in Lugana di Sirmione at Vecchia Lugana.

It is worth remembering that among the three-star venues, Lugana DOC is definitely represented by Dal Pescatore in Canneto sull’Oglio, which offers classic dishes such as steamed pike with parsley, anchovies, capers, and extra virgin olive oil or tench and small fish in marinade scented with orange aroma.
