Lugana DOC Wins Douja D’Or Award Amid Growing Global Export Efforts
He was right, once again!, Luigi Veronelli when, some years ago, during an interview, he stated that the Lugana DOC was a wine capable of withstanding, without any issue, a good aging period of over two or three years.
This year, in occasion of the 1999 edition of the Douja D’Or, the special tasting commission for numerous national wines decreed the sought-after recognition – to be awarded next Saturday, September 11, during the official awards ceremony – to Lugana DOC Il Rintocco, produced by Cantina Marangona.
Details of the awarded wine
This vintage was obtained from grapes coming from vineyards located in the area defined as I° cru di Lugana between Sirmione and Peschiera, situated in the heart of the Lugana wine zone. This vintage, from the 1998 production, will rightly boast the designation of Superiore, reserved for Lugana DOC wines with at least 12 months of aging, as recognized by the recent modifications to the Lugana DOC production regulations.
Expansion and trade
Meanwhile, the marketing of Lugana around the world continues to surpass borders, until recently considered inaccessible. In these days, the Azienda Agricola Provenza has made an initial shipment of over 3,000 bottles of Lugana DOC and Lugana DOC Superiore Cà Molin to the city of Taipei or Taipeh, capital of Taiwan (Formosa), in the northern part of the island, with 2,680,000 inhabitants.
The Lugana DOC wines from Provenza will be displayed and sold along the main street of the capital, Tun Hwa S Road, the same street where other Italian fashion boutiques, such as Armani and Versace, are located.
