Lugana Superiore DOC Wines Receive International Expert Endorsement
The first 7 “Lugana Superiore” DOC wines recently entered the international wine market have brilliantly passed the scrutiny of several renowned European wine experts.
This was a highly significant and particularly appreciated endorsement, as the experts in question included national presidents of the AIS and their respective countries, such as Croatian Ninoslav Dusper, Greek Touloumtzis Kostas, and German Guy Bonnefoit.
Roles and Presentations of the Personalities
Hosting the event, in addition to Consorzio Francesco Ghiraldi, was Giuseppe Vaccarini, who served both as the global and national president of sommeliers.
He was tasked with a general presentation of these new products, achieved through a change desired by the Consorzio Tutela Lugana, on behalf of the producers themselves, and incorporated by the dedicated Ministry Commission into the production regulations that govern all Italian DOCG, DOC, and IGT wines, a change made a couple of years ago.
Production and Tastings
The specific production details were presented to the distinguished guests by the producers of Lugana Superiore themselves: Fabio Contato from Provenza di Desenzano, Franco Visconti from Visconti di Desenzano, Carlo Veronese from Cantina Marangona, Nunzio Ghiraldi from Podere Corte Tosini in Pozzolengo, Dino Rebay from Rebay in Sirmione, Sante Bonomo from the Valtenesi and Lugana wineries of Moniga del Garda, and Paolo Fabiani from Tenuta Roveglia.
During the tasting session of the seven selected samples, held at the very central headquarters of the Consorzio, located near the entrance of Sirmione just a few steps from the majestic Scaliger castle and next to the Tourism Offices, Sirmione Mayor Maurizio Ferrari, accompanied by the Sports and Leisure Assessor Cinzia Ambrosi and the Budget Assessor Giordano Signori, complimented the esteemed guests on their appreciations of this new product made in the Gardesane and Sirmione lands.
He also expressed hope that the recently assigned venue by the Municipality of Sirmione to the Consorzio Tutela Lugana will help further promote and disseminate this exceptional wine, which has been renowned and appreciated since ancient times and favored by popes, kings, and emperors.
Upcoming Events
Vaccarini, thanking everyone present, announced the next meeting scheduled for September, during which all Italian sommeliers and some international representatives will gather in Sirmione on the occasion of their Congress.
