Verona Bishop Consecrates Beato Andrea Church on Parish’s 25th Anniversary

With an intense and touching ceremony, the bishop of Verona, Father Flavio Roberto Carraro, officiated the dedication and consecration of the church of Beato Andrea.

The community of the youngest parish in Arilica gathered for the solemn occasion; it was made even more significant because 2000, the Jubilee year, coincides with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the parish itself.

Don Tarcisio Soldà emphasized that the consecration marked “the completion of a work begun twelve years ago. The dedication, willpower, and passion of a people made it possible to build this temple, which today is solemnly dedicated to the worship of God.”

Objects and rituals of the ceremony

Father Carraro brought from Verona the chalice gift from Rome for this occasion, while ampoules and the thurible arrived from the parish of San Martino.

Celebrating the rite together with the parish priests of Peschiera, and also with their predecessors of Don Tarcisio, the bishop accompanied the different moments of the consecration, reminding the community of the value of the altar as the “bond between heaven and earth”.

Meaning and symbolism of the church

“This church is the house of the Lord, just as each of us is: a church of stone and a church of people.”

“A special place,” the bishop wanted to emphasize, “built at the crossroads of Peschiera, almost to help those who are still seeking something outside. Perhaps the return to religiosity, mature and not made of bigotry, of which Beato Andrea, a Dominican friar, was a great witness. The church is dedicated to him.”
