Malcesine Fishery Club Stocks Trout in Lake Garda for Conservation

The “Dirlindana Club” of Malcesine is active in stocking trout in Lake Garda. Last Saturday, twenty-five thousand fry were released into the waters in front of the Mélsina coast, specifically at seven to eight points along the stretch from Val di Sogno to Navene.

The fishing club took advantage of the initiative by the municipalities of Garda and Bardolino, which were indeed stocking salmonids, to do the same. The specimens, measuring between 9 and 12 centimeters in length, were distributed on eight motorboats and then released into the water.

The operation took about an hour; many assisted, curious about the activity. “The trout,” explains Adelino Lombardi, vice president of the Dirlindana Club, “were thrown offshore, not close to the shore, but it’s likely these small fish will drift back toward the coast.”

This is precisely why it is very important that fishery guards and organizations responsible for safeguarding aquatic fauna work to ensure that the fry are not harvested, but rather grow and contribute to the repopulation of the species. Around three million euros were spent on this operation; we wouldn’t want to have wasted them.”

Future projects of the club and awareness about fishing

The club, which recently underwent a change in its board of directors and whose president is now Felice Banterla, has several projects in the pipeline. In addition to stocking fish, which they hope to do at least once a year, during last week’s meeting (which had a significant turnout), there was also discussion about purchasing the former hatchery in Cassone, which the Province has just put up for sale. The club plans to seek the help of the municipality in this regard.

Additionally, it aims to raise awareness among all fishing enthusiasts, including amateurs, to deepen their understanding of ichthyology. To this end, next Friday, at the Malcesine town hall, an assembly will be held where all fishermen are invited to participate. During the meeting, the new fishing regulations issued by the three involved provinces—Verona, Brescia, and Trentino—will also be discussed.
