Mons. Boaretto Praises Public Healthcare’s Care, Humanity & Dedication

“Even though each patient’s bed has a number, and for obvious reasons it cannot be otherwise, everything tells me and confirms that the patient is a person who is carefully monitored, lovingly cared for, and served.” These are the words of mons. Giuseppe Boaretto, the parish priest of Lonato, who wishes to lend support to public healthcare, often in the eye of criticism for dysfunctions and shortages.

A spontaneous expression of gratitude, after being hospitalized for a few days at the Desenzano hospital. A brief stay, but enough to understand the quality and the work of all healthcare workers. “Public healthcare is often unfairly and undeservedly criticized,” explains mons. Boaretto, “due to some isolated episodes of ‘malpractice,’ while the complex machinery of the system, which quietly works without fanfare or drums, is overlooked — working, studying for patients’ health, and restoring hope and joy of living.”

Search for Balance and Commitment

In short, it is true that a falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest. The priest’s testimony aims to strengthen and encourage all healthcare providers so that the experience can be embraced by all patients in every hospital, where physical well-being “is accompanied by moral well-being in the patient.”

“Apart from the high professional prestige of the medical team led by Prof. Da Pozzo, assisted by paramedical staff, I observed an environment where professionalism and competence are combined with human warmth and attentive care. I have never noticed attitudes or heard words of resentment from the nursing staff when asked for a service or an explanation.”

He concludes — mons. Boaretto — “that instead, there was availability and capacity to diffuse minor inconveniences.”
