Municipal Library Launches Play and Reading Promotion Programs in Sirmione
Interest in young readers who can be introduced to books through play is growing. The Municipal Library has thus launched the play library, a meeting point for children to play and spend time together. This interesting initiative was realized by the Management Committee of the organization, presided over by Pasqua Dibiase.
The play library and the reading promotion project
Currently housed in the premises of the Social Center, it can accommodate around forty children, preferably from elementary and middle schools. The play library is open on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons, from 3 pm to 6 pm. Children are supervised by animators who promote creative and playful activities, such as during this period when they are making papier-mâché masks for Carnival.
The Library has also launched a reading promotion project aimed at involving ever-growing segments of Sirmione’s residents. In this context, a creative reading course has started, with 10 sessions scheduled.
The creative reading course and the themes covered
The courses are conducted by Dr. Anita Prati and are designed as an opportunity to discover the pleasure of reading. They aim to provide a time and a space for this pleasure, especially for those who struggle to find time due to their daily commitments.
The course also seeks to introduce readers to useful tools and a conscious approach to the text. The first cycle of meetings focuses on love stories in Western literature, with sessions dedicated to reading Werther’s Sorrows by Goethe, The Betrothed by Manzoni, and Wuthering Heights by Emily Brönte.
On March 10, the session will cover Madame Bovary by Flaubert, followed by Futility by Italo Svevo. The second cycle will explore Greek classics, starting with Iliad and Odyssey by Homer.
