Municipal Police Review of 2022 Activities and Performance

On Saint Sebastian‘s day, the patron saint of municipal police officers, the traditional celebration of the Polizia Municipale took place. As has become customary, it also served as an opportunity to review the activities of the past year. After the mass at the Basilica of the Castle, a dinner was held, which for thirteen years has been a time of reflection and celebration for officers and their families.

In the presence of the mayor, Commander Aldo Aresti summarized the situation, reporting on the work of the police, which is becoming increasingly broad and less confined to simple fines. “Despite the ongoing shortage of personnel,” Aresti explained, “this year the municipal police achieved the objectives set by the administration, meeting the expectations of the population with satisfaction.

Our daily commitment has focused on road safety and law enforcement checks, with significant work also carried out in the office. The commander highlighted the service performed to enforce the new helmet law, which mandates everyone, including adults, to wear helmets when riding mopeds.”

Performance and controls carried out

Fines totaled 178 — Aresti commented — of which only 22 involved minors, with the remaining issued to individuals who until recently were not required to wear helmets. Specifically, the number of traffic violation reports was 4,036, three hundred fewer than last year, with a significant portion, just under 2,000, coming from speed cameras for preventive purposes.

Over 250 fines were issued for failure to wear seat belts, and there were 19 reports for traffic accidents, including 13 with injuries. Vehicle seizures for lack of insurance coverage numbered 36, as did the checks on construction sites, 267 funeral escorts, 124 for oversize loads, and 290 inspections related to street cuts and scaffolding.

Office activities and personnel updates

Numerous tasks handled in the office include: 974 property transfers, 926 residence changes, 190 artisan permit applications, and 96 family reunifications for foreigners. Currently, the police force consists of 9 officers, but one unit is in the process of transfer and will be replaced in a couple of months through a competitive exam.
