Municipal Waste Separation Launches in Historic Center to Boost Recycling
New collectors for plastic, glass, paper, and municipal solid waste have just been installed at key points in the historic center and in close proximity to it to improve waste separation and recycling efforts.
Currently, the separation of organic waste is only partial, as it is not yet mandatory to separate biodegradable waste from non-recyclables and deposit it into the designated brown container.
Start of the differentiated waste collection
Soon, definitely by the beginning of next year, the era of organic waste collection and separation from non-recyclables will begin.
This represents a new commitment for housekeepers, but one that will optimize collection and therefore disposal, with an eye toward reducing pollution and improving quality of life — in an environmentally respectful way, protecting the environment and its habitats.
Positioning and features of the collection points
The waste collection centers near the historic center have been repositioned and grouped into homogeneous islands.
One is located on viale Roma, near the Carabinieri barracks; another near the La Pezza parking lot on the Verona-Lake provincial road; and a third in the area of the former sports field in the Mara locality.
The new collectors are distinguished by color: white for plastic, yellow for paper, and green for actual urban solid waste.
Containers for glass and other materials
Adjacent to these new collectors are green-colored bottles designed for glass collection.
Special containers for the recovery of expired batteries and medicines are also placed nearby.
Prohibitions and restrictions
The absolute ban remains on placing solid waste bags in the black waste bins, specifically placed in the historic center to facilitate the collection and disposal of small waste generated by passing tourists along streets and alleyways.
The ban on dumping waste outside the hours established by the municipal ordinance also remains in effect.
