Municipality’s Summer Program Excites Youth with Free Activities and Education

When, a few years ago, the municipality announced a summer program to engage young people in a series of leisure activities, someone predicted the usual “flop” of the public entity. Instead, everything went smoothly. The teenagers were attracted by the appealing proposals. A success. Last summer, the participants exceeded one hundred.

Starting again on Monday. Participation is easy; just contact the municipal office for social policies in via Galas (above the municipal police; phone 0464/583607). The events of the holiday program titled “R…summer together 2000,” aimed at children aged 10 to 14, will continue until after Ferragosto. Due to its popularity, in the first ten days of August, children aged 5 to 11 will also be involved.

Proposed activities and key to success

Over the coming weeks, a range of activities will be offered to cater to everyone’s tastes. But the key to success, the element that struck a chord with the young people’s sensibility, lies in giving participants a wide and free choice. “The important thing is that they participate; we don’t impose anything on the many dozens of guests attracted by the possibility of experiences otherwise impossible,” emphasizes Councilor Valerio Costa, the promoter and organizer of this positive summer experience.

“They can truly indulge in sports activities—ranging from sailing courses on Garda to horseback riding in S. Giorgio, from martial arts lessons to excursions with the young climbers, from five-a-side tournaments to afternoons at the Prabi swimming pool. All free of charge, of course. And then there are hours dedicated to dance, guitar, and environmental activities at the Parco Arciducale curated by the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali. We will also repeat last year’s trips to Gardaland and Caneva,” he adds.

Cultural and educational activities

However, “R…summer together 2000” is not only entertainment. Since the participants are schoolchildren and students, an approach to books and academic subjects was inevitable. For three weeks, Italian, mathematics, English, and German will be revisited. And furthermore: in the age of information technology, two courses on the Internet will also be offered.
