Nago Torbole Firefighters Host Community Meal Amid Town Dispute
The “Last Supper” took place on Sunday at noon in the former fire station kitchen in Nago Torbole, featuring polenta and salt cod, and a joyful atmosphere. A happy day, despite everything, blessed by a bright winter sun.
Some colleagues from the Val di Concei fire brigade, those from Riva, and members of Alpine Rescue also arrived at the shore of Carda, in the ex Pavese park, to show solidarity with the Nago Torbole team in their ongoing, sometimes difficult, dispute with the municipal administration. “Zio Tiziano” and “Zio Marzio” proved to be skilled chefs and prepared a truly tasty lunch.
Although invited, no councilor or mayor showed up. Meanwhile, yesterday, there was no movement around the barracks that, on its southern side, houses the kitchen, the workshop, and the boiler room. The firefighters did not touch anything further.
The administration announced its intention to open the new youth center as early as this week. “It’s really too easy,” commented a firefighter yesterday, “to find the youth center already ready. We, of course, with financial support from the Municipality, are here, but we’ve always managed on our own with the masonry work.”
The municipal council is left with a room for which we have spent time and effort.” The dispute arose because the municipal council had requested the firefighters’ availability of the kitchen to establish a youth center there. The firefighters protested: too often, they had arranged rooms for themselves, which were then claimed by the Municipality for other purposes.
However, the council justified its persistence with the integrity of its cause.
