Nature Rights at Lake Garda: A Sustainable Ecosystem Under Discussion

The Federation for the Recognition of the Rights of Lake Garda will present the book “This Wonderful Lake Garda: The Story of a Desirable Rescue” on Tuesday, September 30, at 5:30 PM, in the Egidio Molinari room of the library. The book is edited by Isabella d’Isola, a former professor and spokesperson for the Federation. The event will feature the participation of Mayor Alessio Zanoni, Culture Councillor Stefania Pellegrini, and Marina Bonometti from the Lake Area Protection Committee. The presentation will be documented by filmmaker Pietro Torrisi through an online connection with the library; admission is free until seats are filled. The volume explores the theme of the rights of nature, raising questions about what it means to grant legal personality to a lake, conceived as a living organism. According to the reflections of authors Pasquale Viola and Roberto Louvin, this recognition aims to ensure specific protections for the sustainable ecosystem of Lake Garda, enabling individuals and institutions to act in defense of its integrity, distancing themselves from the selfish interests that often dominate the management of natural resources. The Federation now intends to engage local institutions to promote this crucial initiative for the protection of the lake and its ecosystem. Italian Version
