Nautical rescue on Lake Garda: interventions by the Coast Guard

Asevere storm struck Lake Garda in the late afternoon of Friday the 5th, prompting extensive rescue efforts by the Coast Guard. In total, 15 individuals were rescued thanks to the coordinated intervention of the Salò Coast Guard, the Fire Brigade, and the State Police, following numerous calls to the emergency numbers 112 NUE and 1530. Strong winds from the north created challenging conditions for boaters, leading to several interventions in critical areas such as Limone sul Garda and Torri del Benaco.

Among the significant events, the recovery of four people aboard a sailing boat in distress in Limone was noteworthy, as well as the assistance provided to a boater stranded at their mooring buoy. Several rescues also occurred in the Gulf of Manerba, including two tourists on Rabbit Island and another four boaters in trouble. Due to gusts exceeding 45 knots, Navigarda suspended its ferry services. Thanks to the synergy between the involved forces and the safety protocol for navigators established in 1999, the response to the various incidents was swift and effective. To date, the Coast Guard has coordinated a total of 130 rescue operations throughout the year.
