New Bus-Bike Service Connects Garda Inland Areas with Ferrara di Monte Baldo
An innovative bus-bike service will be launching in the spring, connecting Carda with Ferrara di Monte Baldo. The decision was made jointly by the Mayors of the two municipalities, along with Enrico Merenda, president of l’Apt, two officials from l’Azienda Provinciale Trasporti, and a representative from the Comune di Caprino during a meeting held recently at the Ferrara town hall.
Service information and destinations
“There is already an efficient bus service that also transports bicycles operating in the lake area,” explains Ferrara’s Mayor, Guerrino Coltri. “The idea is to extend this service to the eastern side of Baldo as well, so that tourists visiting the lake can explore the inland areas of Garda by bike.” The vehicle to be used is a coach capable of accommodating around thirty passengers per trip and up to twenty bicycles.”
The public bus-bike service is set to depart from Carda, with stops at Costermano, in Piazza Caprino, at Spiazzi, and finally at Ferrara di Monte Baldo. “As a municipality, we have asked to explore the possibility of adding an additional stop at the Novezzina botanical garden,” continues Coltri. “This would encourage visits to the botanical garden and increase the number of routes available for those heading to the lake.” From Novezzina, it is possible to reach the Trentino side of Baldo and then descend via via d’Adige to Ala or directly to Garda.
Benefits and organization of the service
“Tourists will no longer need to travel by car because the public service will take them to various locations, from where they can return to the lake by bike, traversing safe, signposted, and well-equipped routes.” The municipalities involved will be responsible for setting up dedicated, signposted, and equipped routes within their territories.
The tourism promotion agency will handle the advertising of the initiative through posters and informational leaflets, which will also be distributed in hotels, while l’Azienda Provinciale Trasporti will ensure the public service runs with available vehicles and, if necessary, will expand the fleet.
Every year, increasing numbers of tourists choose to spend part of their holiday exploring the inland Garda area. The plan developed by the municipalities of Ferrara and Garda is among various projects designed to meet these demands.
Tourist interest and project value
“Even foreign tourists visiting the lake are no longer content with just sunbathing and beach holidays,” say the mayors. “They come on holiday with their bikes and actively inquire about inland spots to visit, especially those with noteworthy landscapes, cultural, and environmental significance.”
