A new feasibility study has been requested to reassess the renovation project for the Desenzano hospital, currently planned for the controversial “buca” area, alongside the decommissioning of the facility in Montecroce. The motion, presented to the regional council by a group of councilors including Paola Pollini from the Five Star Movement, and supported by the citizens’ committee “Let’s Keep the Hospital in Montecroce,” aims to explore alternative solutions that could ensure the modernization and seismic safety of the current hospital. This appeal follows a previous request sent to President Attilio Fontana, which went unanswered.
The committee has gathered over 7,000 signatures against the hospital’s relocation, emphasizing the necessity of keeping the facility in its current location. Mayor Guido Malinverno has ruled out the application of an exoskeleton to improve the building’s seismic vulnerability but has not completely closed the door on a potential renovation. Alessandra Pianalto, spokesperson for the committee, expressed gratitude to the regional councilors for addressing the group’s concerns, thereby highlighting the significance of their request for the future of local healthcare.
