A northern lights display captivated residents and visitors in San Felice del Benaco during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, thanks to a G4-level geomagnetic storm that struck the Earth. This rare phenomenon for these latitudes was captured by reader and astrophotographer Emma Pezzi, who took a stunning 30-second long exposure shot from the Bay of Wind. Despite forecasts predicting only a 1% chance of visibility, the aurora became clearly visible around 4:00 AM, providing a breathtaking spectacle. The ongoing geomagnetic storm was triggered by two coronal mass ejections from the Sun, which is currently at the peak of its eleven-year activity cycle. Experts warn that further displays of the northern lights could occur in the coming hours, making it possible to observe them in other surrounding areas as well. However, there is also the potential for effects on radio communications and GPS due to the intensity of the magnetic storm. Italian Version
