On the night of November 11th to 12th, San Felice del Benaco witnessed an extraordinary event: astrophotographer Emma Pezzi captured a visible aurora borealis, despite the low likelihood of observation. At 3:15 AM, a KP index of 8.00 indicated only a 1% chance of seeing the phenomenon from her location at Baia del Vento. However, at 4:00 AM, the sky lit up with violet and pink hues to the north, allowing Pezzi to immortalize this rare spectacle over the lake. This photograph adds to a series of recent successes for the photographer from Lake Garda, who had just days earlier documented the “largest” Supermoon of the year. The aurora borealis is a phenomenon typical of northern regions and can also appear further south during intense solar storms. Forecasts suggest that there may be new opportunities to observe similar events in the coming days, providing exciting prospects for astrophotography enthusiasts and sky watchers. Italian Version
