Organ Donation in Italy: Roundtable Discusses Laws, Youth Engagement
Organ donors in the spotlight and dedicated roundtable
Organ donors still make front-page news. It will be a roundtable moderated by the director of Verona Fedele, to provide insights into issues surrounding organ donation.
“The topic of organ donation is quite broad,” explains the president of Aido in Lazise, Imelda Squarzoni Gelmetti. “But significant issues that have arisen following the enactment of the latest law give us ample opportunity to engage in comprehensive discussion about the donor’s commitment and the Aod.”
Goals and commitment on the topic
“We also want,” continues Squarzoni Gelmetti, “to emphasize within the youth community that the spirit of donation can increase and become a spontaneous and simple act, as it is in other European countries.”
“Let’s not forget,” she adds, “that Italy is somewhat the tail-end among the Euro countries, and not just that, but also among Central European countries, including those in Eastern Europe.”
Details of the meeting and planned interventions
The meeting, held at the Meridiana halls, kindly offered by the GIV group, will take place on Friday at 9 p.m. Attendees will include, besides Bruno Fasani the donor, Luigi Boschiero from the renal transplant center at Verona Hospital, Francesca Sordo from the neurosurgical intensive care unit in Legnago, and Francesca Fiorentini.
Also present will be Enrico Franchi, a player from Chievo Verona, entrepreneur Matteo Frinzi, and other young entrepreneurs actively involved in volunteering.
The provincial president of Aido, Alfredo Giancarlo Brancaleoni, is also expected to attend.
Before the debate, Bruno Fasani will hold a mass in memory of Simone Gelmetti, the young Lazise man who donated his organs and to whom a dedicated donors’ section has been named (s.b.).
