Pasolini and Gaber Challenge Conformity with Sharp Social and Cultural Critique
A recent conference at Liceo Fermi in Salò, led by Professor Valerio Capasa, analyzed the cultural critique of Pier Paolo Pasolini and Giorgio Gaber, focusing on themes of invisible power and social conformity. Held on November 15, the event aimed to explore how both figures warned against the loss of critical thinking and the human “mutation” caused by consumerism and mass media.
During the session, Capasa discussed power as a tool of absolute conformity, the futility of resisting this mechanism, and the possibility of the heart as an alternative path. Using Pasolini quotes and live musical excerpts from Gaber, the talk emphasized the importance of personal reflection to counteract societal homogenization and maintain critical awareness of current social dynamics.
