Legambiente has issued a call to Peschiera del Garda to address the issue of overtourism, emphasizing the need to promote sustainable tourism in the Lake Garda area. During a meeting held as part of the national Goletta dei Laghi campaign, the association highlighted that the tourist pressure, with over 18 million visitors during the summer months against a resident population of 190,000, compromises the livability and local environment. To combat this phenomenon, ten targeted proposals were presented to administrators and tourism operators, focusing on mobility, regulation, and the involvement of residents.
Recent data reprocessed by ISTAT indicates a 27% increase in tourist arrivals in lakeside municipalities between 2014 and 2024, with significant peaks on the Venetian shore. In particular, Peschiera del Garda has seen a 59% rise, making the growing impact of tourism on the urban fabric evident. Therefore, Legambiente proposes measures to build a more balanced and responsible tourism model that can ensure lasting benefits for local communities and preserve the environmental integrity of the region.
