Pinuccia Nicolosi Wins Conte Treccani Art Award; Brescian Artists Honored
The Brescia-born Pinuccia Nicolosi, 48 years old, won the fifteenth edition of the «Conte Treccani degli Alfieri» National Painting Award, founded by the eponymous encyclopedia.
The artist secured 7 million of the 16 million prize pool. The jury, presided over by Ernesto Treccani (son of the renowned patron born in Montichiari) and composed of Aurora Scotti, Raffaele De Grada, Fausto Lorenzi, and Bianca Tosatti, unanimously voted for Nicolosi’s work titled «Quinto stato».
The painting is created on canvas (80 x 120) using mixed media—oil, inks, and emulsions. The winner narrowly surpassed Rimini-based Davide Frisoni, author of the piece «Sguardi di luci ed ombre», which took second place, and another Brescia native, Giuseppe William Vezzoli, who ranked third with «2000, l’uomo know all?». A consolation prize of one million, offered by the Pro loco di Montichiari, was awarded to Korean Si Young Yoon, who presented «Silenzio e movimento».
Award Ceremony and Exhibition of the Works
The award ceremony took place on Sunday morning in the city council chamber, attended by Gianantonio Rosa, the Mayor of Montichiari; Elena Zanola, the Cultural Affairs Assessor; and numerous representatives of sponsoring institutions: from the European Parliament to the Region, as well as the Province and the Garda Cooperative Credit Bank.
The event was an unprecedented success: 214 artworks were submitted by 135 artists. This is four times more than two years ago, with participants from Northern Italy as well as Naples, Rome, Florence, and Reggio Calabria.
Three works were highlighted by the jury: «Infante 2000» by Michele Munno, «Identità» by Paola Grott, and «Mille non più mille?» by Ezio Pirovani.
The 50 selected pieces, including the four winners and the three honorable mentions, are currently on display in the hall of the former Cassa Rurale di via Mazzoldi.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until January 14, 2001 (hours: Saturday, Sunday 10-12, 17-19; Monday to Friday 16-19).
Significant participation from accounting students and the Moretto school in the conference held Saturday morning, which showcased the work and life of the Conte Treccani degli Alfieri.
The event was hosted at the Teatro Gloria. Speakers Costante Belletti and Mario Pedini expressed words of praise and esteem for the great patron.
During the conference, the booklet—event guide, the first «Monteclarense Cultural Notebook»—was distributed, inaugurating a new series of studies and conferences on «The Fathers Who Built the History of Montichiari».
