A serious case of poaching has been uncovered in Gavardo, where the Forestry Carabinieri reported a 78-year-old man for illegally setting up over one hundred meters of nets and traps aimed at capturing small wild birds. The operation resulted in the seizure of 27 bird-catching nets, complete with acoustic lures, placed near a residence and an agricultural field. During the intervention, twenty specimens, including robins and warblers, were released, highlighting the severity of the situation which poses a direct threat to wildlife protection. LNDC Animal Protection has decided to support the Carabinieri’s report, emphasizing the urgency of intensifying controls in the area to prevent such illegal practices. The organization expressed concern that the individual reported was a member of the F.O.I. (Italian Ornithologists Federation), thereby contradicting the principles of respect and safeguarding of natural habitats promoted by the federation. President Piera Rosati stated that they will continue to fight against poaching and promote a culture of respect for animals, while reserving the right to join the proceedings as a civil party in the upcoming trial.
