Poisoned Baits Found Between Desenzano del Garda and Bagolino: Cleanup Efforts Underway. In recent days, multiple reports from citizens have alerted authorities to the presence of poisoned baits in public areas. In response to this emergency, the Forest Carabinieri units from Salò and Idro, supported by the anti-poison canine unit from the Forest Carabinieri in Dervio (Lecco), have begun patrolling and cleaning an area of approximately 20,000 square meters in the affected municipalities. The poisoned meatballs, presumably containing snail poison, were discovered along the Candelina path, but fortunately, no casualties among domestic animals have been reported in that area.
However, more serious situations have emerged in Lonato, where abandoned baits have led to the deaths of a dog and a cat. Additionally, a dog’s death has been reported in Bagolino, specifically in the “Pissisidolo” locality. Investigations are currently underway to check for toxic substances in the discovered baits; analyses conducted on some carcasses have revealed traces of strychnine, a highly toxic alkaloid. The Forest Carabinieri continue to monitor this phenomenon, which poses a serious risk to public health and the environment, with severe legal consequences for those engaging in such illegal activities.
