Polizia Boosts Lake Garda Boat Checks Ahead of New Riva Collaboration
In a few weeks, the nautical squadron of the Polizia di Peschiera, which has jurisdiction over the waters of Lake Garda from Torri and Salò, will begin collaborating with colleagues from Riva, responsible for the northern part of Benaco.
Meanwhile, the Riva police have recently conducted widespread checks at the ports of Garda Trentino. The investigation led to the denunciation of the owners of five boats that had been illegally moored at Torbole, at the Lido Blu area – Foci del Sarca.
The vessels—a total of two sailboats, two rowboats, and one motorboat—lacked the proper permits for anchoring and risked seizure for illegal occupation of the lakebed public domain.
The boat owners, besides removing their vessels from the illegal «parking» area (if they failed to do so, they would have to cover the costs for removal in addition to the seizure), must also eliminate the mooring anchors from the bottom of the lake, which are weights used to secure the buoys.
In fact, according to the Navigation Code, the situation must be restored to its original state before the unauthorized anchoring; failure to comply can result in up to six months of imprisonment and a fine of one million euros.
Soon, even along the Verona coast, the Polizia di Stato may begin inspections of ports and docks following the model of those carried out in Garda Trentino; for those who are non-compliant with permit regulations, hard times are expected.
