Pollini Calls for Stricter Penalties to Combat Illegal Fishing in Lombard Lakes

During a hearing of the VIII Agriculture Commission on illegal fishing in Lombard lakes, regional councilor Paola Pollini of the Five Star Movement criticized the current measures as insufficient and called for urgent updates. The session, attended by the president of the Lecco provincial section of the FIPSAS sports fishing federation, highlighted issues in the sanctions system, including a case where 120 illegally caught coregonids were fined only 51 euros, despite the fish’s estimated daily market value of around 1,000 euros.

Pollini emphasized the need to strengthen monitoring and tighten penalties at both regional and national levels, citing concerns over legality and biodiversity protection. The Five Star Movement proposed a formal revision of the sanctions system during the hearing.
