Pollutant Discharges in Desenzano: Alert on Water Quality

Recent investigations conducted by the Five Star Movement have revealed the presence of polluting discharges along the shores of the lake, with an alarming 80% of the monitored points showing signs of contamination. This study, initiated between 2023 and 2024, examined 25 discharges from Sirmione to Toscolano Maderno, highlighting significant issues within the local sewage networks. Samples taken in December 2024, May, and August 2025 revealed that only 12% of the discharges were free of contamination, while the remainder frequently exhibited the mixing of stormwater with sewage. Microbiological analyses indicated concerning levels of Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci, suggesting a serious risk to water quality. The Movement has emphasized the urgency for structural investments and greater transparency in the management of the sewage system to address these critical issues. In particular, they are calling for the publication of the sewage network mapping and targeted interventions to remediate problematic sections. Activists warn that the current situation can no longer be tolerated and that immediate actions are necessary to protect this precious ecosystem. Italian Version
