Polpenazze May 2023 Event: Exhibition and Book Launch Honoring Isa Grandinetti
A moving appointment is scheduled for next Sunday, December 17th, in the council chamber of the municipality of Polpenazze. At 11:15 AM, after the Holy Mass, the exhibition “A child, a flower, a pirogue” will be inaugurated. This is the same exhibition that, until just days before her passing, the writer, who died last October 9th and was the epitome of Valtenesi, Isa Marchiori Grandinetti, had last touched up.
On the same morning, her latest book will also be presented: “It’s a story that belongs to all of us, if it’s true that the future has an ancient heart, if it’s true, as is true, that every man” – states Giancarlo Ribelli, the mayor – is the result of the generations that preceded it. It is published by the municipal administration and the Polpenazze Civic Library: “Thirteen Moons over the village of Polpenazze”. These are two projects she dedicated herself to with her unmistakable and characteristic care and passion throughout the summer.
Description of the Exhibition and the Book
“The book is a friendly chronicle” – says the president of the Library, Arsenio Palamone – of Polpenazze and its community from origins to the present day. Among images, news, fragments of life, information, and anecdotes, 4000 years of history unfold, from which the contours of the Polpenazze community emerge clearly, with its places, characters, families, and events, often teetering between reality and legend.
The exhibition, on the other hand, features images, documents, and newspaper articles concerning ten very important years of the post-war period, from 1955 to 1965, during which Polpenazze tried to break its isolation and emerge from poverty to initiate its economic recovery.
“Polpenazze” – continues Palamone – without roads and ignored by any tourist itinerary, will need a jolt to start off on the right foot. This push will come from the extensive media coverage of the discovery of the pirogue from Lake Lucone in Polpenazze, a discovery that will crown ten years of studies and research by Isa Marchiori Grandinetti.
The recovery of the important relic took place in August 1965, with the collaboration of the Grotte di Gavardo group, on behalf of the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Lombardia. All the material, however, belongs to the writer’s personal archive, a native of Polpenazze, who, as mentioned, personally curated its selection, layout, and commentary.
The exhibition will remain open only on public holidays until January 7, 2001, with hours from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
