Ponti sul Mincio Historic Fair Celebrates Over 150 Years of Tradition
The historic San Gaetano Fair has begun on Friday. It is called historic because it was established on July 10, 1871: in the previous season, there were many sales of cattle, as well as traders dealing in «other animals, silk, and rags» had made good business.
For several years now, Ponti sul Mincio has created a fair committee that organizes, with the support of the municipal administration, the event. The mayor Giorgio Rebuschi is pleased and thanks everyone who, in any way, works to promote Ponti, its culture, and its gastronomy.
Schedule of the three days
This is the schedule for the three days. On Friday, it started with an engaging initiative: A town in the square, featuring a long table. That is, they began by tasting local culinary products, where the «strangolini» and other delicacies excel. The background music was provided by the Alfa 10 TI orchestra.
Yesterday hosted the traditional square dance with the Philadelphia orchestra and a show by trampoline performers. Today at 9:30 AM, a handball tournament – demonstration matches in the square featuring teams The Stars from Ponti, Dossobuono, and Bancole, competing in categories Qui, quo, qua, Topolino, Under 14.
At 8:00 PM, at the historic Colonnade of the former nursery school, the Gusto Laboratory presents: To the Beer. At 8:30 PM, the awards ceremony for the handball tournament, with the presence of Italy’s champion team from Dossobuono. At 9:00 PM, a square dance with the Giusy Mercury orchestra. At 10:00 PM, a Kick Boxing demonstration.
Events on Saturday and Sunday
Tomorrow, at 8:00 PM, the Gusto Laboratory presents «Mediterranean Cuisine». At 9:00 PM, a square dance with the Canta Italia Show orchestra. Also in the square, a Cabaret show featuring Cico & Cica.
On Tuesday, the day of the patron saint, in addition to religious events, at 9:00 PM there will be a dance in the square with the orchestra of Fausto and Sabrina. At midnight, the event concludes with the traditional fireworks show.
Furthermore, at the beer stand, music is played to suit all tastes: on Saturday, a performance of Brazilian popular music by the Temporei. Today, Country music with the Tennesee. Tomorrow, 70s Rock music with the Oxama Project. Finally, on Tuesday, Italian and international Cover music with the Royal Smile.
