Portese launches sailing course for people with Parkinson’s at Lake Garda

A sailing programme for people living with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers will run five times at the Portese Sailing Club between 18 and 26 July, as part of “ParkinsOnLake”. The initiative, promoted by the Neurology department of ASST Garda together with Hyak APS, was presented on 14 July in San Felice del Benaco.

The scheduled dates are 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26 July. Activities will be carried out by experienced sailing crews with specialised healthcare staff present, and clinical coordination is led by neurologist Massimo Biacca; caregivers may support participants when needed. Organisers say the goal is to add a controlled outdoor activity to the care pathway, using sailing as a shared experience within a programme supported by healthcare professionals.

ASST Garda notes that boat movement and on-board manoeuvres can provide opportunities to work on balance, coordination, attention and adaptability, and also support social interaction for participants and their families. The project involves ParkinZone APS, the Portese Sailing Club and Hyak APS, with patronage from the Municipality of San Felice del Benaco, the Fondazione LIMPE per il Parkinson ETS and Azione Parkinson Brescia.
