Portese Nautical Club Proposes Enhanced Safety Measures for Lake Garda

First official step towards operational and strategic readiness in addressing safety issues on Lake Garda comes from the Portese Nautical Club. A club that does not only cater to sailing boats but also to motorboats. In fact, for several months now, in addition to the Italian Sailing Federation (Federazione Italiana Vela), the club has also been affiliated with the Italian Motorboating Federation (Federazione Italiana Motonautica).

Responses to disasters and concrete initiatives

Following various accidents that occurred during the summer of 1998 in the waters of Garda, which unfortunately resulted in the death of several people, many verbal statements have been made by numerous authorities. Many words, but few concrete actions.

Also from the recent meeting promoted by the Garda Community (Comunità del Garda) in Limone, beyond some intentions, nothing has yet translated into operational measures. Italo Mosca, president of the Portese Nautical Club (Circolo Nautico di Portese), determined to start something concrete, took steps in recent days to formalize it in writing, then sending the proposal to the Authorities.

Proposals for collaboration and operational requests

The Portese Nautical Club, writes president Mosca, has expressed its pleasure in hosting the crew and vessel of the Guardia di Finanza at its port. We have observed that throughout the entire summer season, and especially during emergency incidents such as those in August, where more lives were lost, despite the available means being very limited and inadequate for rescuing people and boats, the crew’s efforts were exceptionally commendable.

Italo Mosca, in his capacity as president of the C.N.P., and the entire steering committee, while praising their efforts, emphasizing their willingness, and offering maximum cooperation in handling emergency situations, concludes that it is crucial to equip the Guardia di Finanza crew with better means than those currently available. This is necessary to ensure greater safety and peace of mind for navigation on our lake and to better respond to extraordinary emergency situations.
