Lombardy has recently approved a revision of the regional law on public transport, aimed at making the system more modern and effective. The resolution, passed on Wednesday, April 30, by the Regional Council, includes an enhancement of the Region’s role in the governance of the TPL Agencies, along with their exit and the establishment of a Regional Committee for Public Transport. Among the main innovations is the introduction of integrated fare systems, which seeks to simplify ticketing through an interoperable digital system across different areas.
Furthermore, the proposed law includes measures to support disadvantaged areas and regulate non-scheduled services such as taxis and chauffeur-driven rentals (NCC). President Attilio Fontana emphasized that this reform represents a crucial step towards more sustainable mobility that meets the needs of citizens, while Councillors Lucente and Terzi highlighted the necessity for targeted and coordinated planning in the public transport sector to ensure better services throughout the Lombardy region.
