Puegnago Mayor Gianfranco Comincioli Resigns Amid Town Turmoil
The community of Puegnago is about to experience a New Year’s blast—not the traditional fireworks with light effects, more or less pyrotechnic, but a metaphorical explosion whose effects will ripple over the coming months. Mayor Gianfranco Comincioli has tendered his resignation. He did so at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, but the news only leaked out yesterday, Saturday, after the entire municipal administrative machinery had carried out the appropriate procedures.
It will certainly not be an easy resignation to manage, and perhaps it will be reconsidered in the coming days. Certainly, Comincioli didn’t make this decision lightly. Moreover, on Thursday evening (December 21), the municipal council session was held with a united majority behind their mayor, with no signs or warnings suggesting such a move might occur.
No one knew, no one thought it, and truthfully, few believe that Comincioli’s decision is irrevocable. Clearly, the climate in the town has not been the most serene or familial for some time, nor the easiest to handle. This atmosphere was created by small groups of people—apparently not numerous—who periodically issued bulletins criticizing the Comincioli administration, creating unrest and confusion among the population.
The community’s reaction and the reasons for the resignation
After hearing the news, which spread by word of mouth, the town’s residents found it necessary and essential to show their support and esteem for the resigning mayor, elected last June, deliberately setting aside the promoters of letters and bulletins. As for the motivations behind this act, carried out just before the Christmas holidays—a time when administrative activity tends to slow down—no details have been disclosed, as no explanations were added to the resignation.
Indeed, this is a moment when everyone in Puegnago is called—directly or indirectly—to calmly assess and consider their town’s situation, reaffirming, as they are indeed doing, their trust in the entire team led by Gianfranco Comincioli. No one knew about the decisions made by what must now be called the “former mayor,” not even his family members, who only learned about his official resignation afterward.
The management of the crisis and potential consequences
Certainly, the administrative events also affected them, as it’s unfortunately common practice to mix public matters with private ones—family ties with daily work. Gianfranco Comincioli, and he will probably confirm this in the coming days, could no longer bear this state of affairs, the ongoing situation, the continuous movement of Law Enforcement and Prosecutor’s Office.
It was, and still is, the moment to take a time out—to lay all cards on the table, take stock of the situation, and especially to evaluate both supporters and detractors. Once this has been done, discussions can resume regarding the confirmation or revocation of the resignation. If confirmed, Puegnago will hold municipal elections this coming spring.
