Reactions to Riva del Garda’s Tourism School Proposal Amid Criticism

The hypothesis launched by a leading group in the trade fair sector to bring a private tourism school to Riva del Garda is receiving more criticism than approval. It is disliked by certain political forces within the same majority and by many ordinary citizens.

Reactions and opinions on the proposal

Enrico Rossaro, a well-known figure in Riva del Garda and beyond, who is always attentive to tourism-related issues, is among those who have spoken out. For Rossaro, the ideal goal to make Riva take a real leap forward in the sector’s offerings is to establish a Faculty of Tourism Sciences connected with the University of Trento.

“Apart from the fact that a private school for tourism already exists in the area” — notes Enrico Rossaro — you don’t need to look very far for a more practical example that clearly shows this solution would be successful. In Switzerland, on the northern slopes of the Alps, a university of tourism sciences has been established in a town near Lake Constance, which, among other things, boasts two renowned professors (Hunzinger and Kraft, for the record) and remains popular worldwide to this day.

Concrete proposals and past initiatives

According to Rossaro, Riva could consider offering a short degree (2 years) with the option of an additional two years for specialization. The idea, truthfully, is not entirely new. Several years ago, this proposal, complete with its statutes and details on curricula, was brought to the attention of the municipal administration by Rossaro himself and Claudio Bonvecchio (a former manager of Enit, the Italian national agency for tourism).

“But the idea” — recalls the proponent today — was only appreciated in words and practically abandoned. Now is definitely the time to revive it before another location, not less suited to tourism than ours, claims it as its own. It is high time that the ‘Pearl of Carda’ shakes off its lethargy and the habituation to the course of history that inexorably passes over it.

Major works and infrastructure

It is now necessary, when planning initiatives in important locations, to think at least on a European level. Just as with golf, which must be built with 18 holes and not in a reduced form, or the Fonale road, which should be maintained but as a route for another, somewhat more important and necessary road for the entire Lake Garda area.

Namely, the elevated highway that should pass beneath the rocks of Pregasina and that, with interchanges at Limone and Bogliasco, should connect to Salò-Strada dei Termini, then lead into the tunnel opening onto the highway toward Broscia and the motorway.
