Record-Breaking Grappa Exhibition at Puegnago Fair Showcases 269 Varieties
The 25th edition of the Fiera di Puegnago features an exhibition of as many as 269 varieties of grappa. The event, promoted by the «Alambicco del Garda», gathered the most renowned and famous brands from the three regions overlooking Lake Garda: Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Veneto.
This is also the Italian record for the number of participants, labels, and producers. The Puegnago municipal administration, led by mayor Gianfranco Comincioli, worked diligently and obtained from Poste Italiane a special cancellation mark for the second edition of the «Alambicco del Garda» contest: a homage to this typically Italian distillate. Year after year, this distillate gains prestige and appeals to connoisseurs, positively influencing their choice of digestif.
Location and objectives of the event
As noted beside, the Fiera di Puegnago is taking place for the first time in the stunning setting of Palazzo Todeschini. Thanks to this clever combination, blending the Garda landscape with Italian distillates, the event should extend its reach beyond local borders, relying on the choices and affection of visitors.
The fair also aims to select the best grappas in competition. For this purpose, representatives from ANAG (the National Association of Grappa Tasters, Brescia section), led by president Paini, will be present.
Selection procedure and visitor participation
However, the most popular products will be chosen not only by the judges but also by visitors, who, after tasting, will be able to cast their votes via a questionnaire provided at the tasting session.
«A competition of flavors, aromas, and clarity played out over 269 grappas – explains Paini –. The contest features a wide range of well-known brands, from Lugana, Groppello, Franciacorta, Moscato di Scanzo, Valcalepio, as well as Valtellina options like Inferno, Valtellina, Sforzat, and those from Oltrepò Pavese like Bonarda and Bottafuoco. Let’s not forget the Venetian varieties such as Amarone, Tocai, Moscato Fior d’Arancio, Cabernet, and Torbato, as well as those from Trentino, including numerous Moscato, Teroldego, Traminer, Schiava, Nosiola, and Muller Thurgau.»
Purpose and significance of the event
For connoisseurs and especially for those who appreciate this precious distillate, visiting the Fiera di Puegnago is an absolute priority. It is no small feat to gather such a record-breaking number of grappas.
