A significant event recently took place in Bussolengo, where 23 bats were rescued and released at the Parco Natura Viva. These individuals, recovered and rehabilitated after falling from their mothers, took to the skies among the surrounding oaks at dusk. The initiative was made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of the “Il Pettirosso” Wildlife Center in Modena, which highlighted that the widespread use of pesticides poses one of the main threats to these species of microchiropterans, which are crucial for natural insect control.
The event, titled “A Bat for a Friend,” attracted public attention and emphasized the growing importance of wildlife conservation. The park’s zoological director explained that all 35 species of bats found in Italy are included in the IUCN Red List, with more than half in decline. With the release of these new individuals, the bats will be able to join those already released in previous years, thus contributing to local biodiversity and collectively addressing environmental challenges.
