Arco reopens the Hermitage of San Paolo, one of the oldest sites of religious tourism in the area, following the completion of restoration work on the access path, which had been closed last autumn due to a landslide. Thanks to the collaboration of the Schützen Company association, the hermitage will be open for visits on Sundays in July and August, from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 4 PM to 7 PM. This building, consecrated in 1186 and located along the historic Prabi road that connects the Lower Sarca to Trento, is a significant example of sacred art, featuring frescoes that adorn both the interior and exterior.
The history of the hermitage is marked by alternating periods of devotion and neglect; in 1627, it was used as a quarantine site during a plague outbreak. The 18th century saw moments of revival for the festivities related to Saint Paul, while in the 19th century, the property came under the ownership of Gregorio de Althamer, who initiated significant restorations. After years of deterioration from 1950 onwards, the structure was acquired by the Municipality of Arco and underwent a radical restoration thanks to the intervention of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
