Rescue of missing windsurfer: Coast Guard intervention in Malcesine

A 47-year-old windsurfer was rescued by the Coast Guard on the late morning of Saturday, January 18, after going missing due to adverse weather conditions. The group of friends who had set out from the Malcesine shoreline reported his absence upon returning, concerned about the difficulties he encountered in the water, where the wind and wave action were pushing him southward. Rescue operations were immediately initiated by the Operations Room, while the area experienced winds exceeding 20 knots and very low temperatures.

After approximately 45 minutes of searching, the man was spotted by the crew of the GC B9, clinging to his board and visibly cold. Once rescued, he was assisted by the coastguards and subsequently transferred to the harbor in Malcesine, where he was able to reunite with his friends. Fortunately, medical assistance was not required, but the timely intervention prevented risks associated with hypothermia. The Coast Guard urges all athletes to carefully monitor weather conditions before engaging in water activities.
