Riva del Garda: Guidi and Mušič on view at Civica Crattonara

Riva del Garda will host the exhibition “La Pittura tra luce e tenebra,” dedicated to Virgilio Guidi and Zoran Mušič, at the Sala Civica “G. Crattonara” in the Giardini di Porta Orientale. The opening is set for Saturday, 5 September at 6:30 pm, with the presentation by professor MariaLuisa Crosina. The show brings together two 20th-century artists linked by their attention to Venice and by their ability to translate emotions, contrasts, and suspended visions between light and darkness onto canvas.

For Virgilio Guidi, born in Rome in 1891 and died in Venice in 1984, the exhibition highlights his long study of lagoon light reflected on the water from his studio near San Marco, alongside his engagement with past masters and major artistic movements. It also outlines his shift through large pictorial cycles—from works such as “Visite,” “Marine,” and “Figure nello spazio,” to later series including “Cielo antico,” “Angosce,” “Giudizi,” and “Tumulti,” moving toward an increasingly informal language—ending with “L’uomo e il cielo.” For Zoran Mušič, born in 1909 and died in Venice in 2005, the focus includes his landscapes shaped by memory and testimony, his arrest in 1944 by the Gestapo and deportation to San Sabba and Dachau, and the later “Stanza di Zurigo” commission. The exhibition also features his Shoah-related cycle “Non siamo gli ultimi,” created from secret drawings and developed into an artistic denunciation of the extermination camps.
