Riva Residents Call for Traffic Restrictions and Safety Improvements
Traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles in both directions; swift implementation of a sidewalk; acceleration of the planning and construction process for the Comai-bis bypass and the realization of the Riva ring road; notification to the Province of Trento that currently “to solve the traffic issues on our territory, a small fraction of the Riva municipality is forced to rely on a road unsuitable for heavy traffic, endangering the safety of residents.” These are the demands from a substantial group of residents contained in a letter sent in recent days to Mayor Malossini, seeking to finally resolve the traffic and safety problems in Pasina, one of the most at-risk areas of Riva.
The signatories recall that the obligation for heavy traffic transit was established in ’94, “with the promise that it was a six-month trial period. Furthermore,” they continue, “it has been 50 years since work has been carried out to rectify and improve Pasina, also considering that entire neighborhoods have been developed on via Pigarelli, via Fornasetta, and via Venezia without assessing the impact on local traffic.” According to residents of Pasina, the solutions proposed by the municipal administration (cameras, traffic lights, etc.) are “insufficient.”
Next public debate on safety
The topic will nonetheless be the focus of a public discussion scheduled for next Monday, February 28, at the Centro Sociale del Pemone (8:30 PM).
