Romanian Delegation Visits Lugana DOC Wineries, Showcases Export Potential
There are numerous prominent personalities who periodically visit the area and the wine-producing companies of Lugana DOC. The interest is not only national but also, especially in recent times, international.
A few days ago, a Romanian municipal delegation from the city of Satu Mare was hosted by the Provenza, Marangona, and Spia d’Italia wineries. During the visit, they had the opportunity to directly engage with the Lugana production reality, right at its most critical phase: the start of harvest.
The delegation, also accompanied by some officials from the Province of Brescia, the Ente Vini Bresciani, and the Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC, included, among others, the mayor of Satu Mare, Horea Anderco, his deputy Iuliu Ilyès, municipal councilor Bancea Valeriu, and Daniela Culic, director of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Satu Mare County.

Fabio Contacto, from Provenza, was tasked with explaining to the delegation the main stages of vinification and sparkling wine production of Lugana DOC. The guests paid particular attention to the meteorological station, which, in connection with MeteoSat, allows for forecasting weather conditions and taking the necessary precautions.
Carlo Veronese, from Marangona, accompanied the distinguished guests on a visit to the Trebbiano di Lugana vineyards and then to the cellars, where preparations for carbonic maceration for the Novello ’98 also began.
Of course, during the visits, the guests sampled various Lugana wines produced by the companies, receiving very favorable feedback.
Interest in export and quality of Lugana
There was also interest in potentially exporting Lugana from Italy to Romania, as its unmistakable characteristics, aromas, flavors, and fragrances elicited great enthusiasm.
This is a quality wine, Lugana DOC, which Romanian public officials, after making the necessary currency calculations for retail sales in their countries, deemed suitable for a middle-high class population.
At Spia d’Italia, present were the president of Ente Vini Bresciani, Alberto Pancera; the president of APT di Brescia, Maurizio Banzola; the president of Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC, Francesco Ghiraldi; the president of Consorzio Garda Classico, Alessandro Redaelli De Zinis, and, naturally, Andrea Guetta.
During the dinner, Guetta proposed a varied tasting of Garda wines, both white and red. The mayor of Satu Mare described it as a festival of wines in his farewell greeting, hoping that in the near future he too will have the opportunity to taste the great wines from the Brescia side of Lake Garda, even in his country.
