The municipality of Salò has officially joined the awareness campaign “The Lake Starts Here,” an initiative aimed at the protection of water against the improper disposal of waste in storm drains. This campaign, launched on March 22, 2022, by AGS and the municipality of Riva del Garda, has already garnered support from various locations around Lake Garda, including Lazise, Nago Torbole, Arco, and Sirmione. The goal is to educate citizens about more responsible waste management behaviors, emphasizing that what is discarded in storm drains can ultimately pollute the lake.
The campaign’s creators have highlighted the importance of dispelling the misconception that storm drains are directly connected to sewage systems or treatment plants. “The Lake Starts Here” employs creative and metaphorical graphics to convey this message, illustrating that there is much more lurking at the bottom of storm drains than one might imagine. Active community participation is essential to ensure the health of aquatic ecosystems and preserve local water resources.
