Salò Merchants Push for a Tourist-Grade Commercial Network

Connectivity problems in Salò’s historic centre are hampering local businesses, according to Andrea Maggioni, president of the traders’ association Salò ProMotion. He says that in several areas fibre-optic broadband does not reach the shops and offices located there, while mobile coverage is often unstable or insufficient.

The issue affects a significant part of the city’s economy: about 100 businesses operate in the historic centre out of roughly 250 citywide. Traders report that outages and weak connections go beyond slow browsing, disrupting electronic payments, links to company software, tax-related communications, and day-to-day contact with customers and suppliers. Some have resorted to temporary measures such as installing additional antennas or equipment, and even need to step onto balconies or terraces to make mobile calls.

Maggioni called on local institutions and telecom operators to address the situation urgently with concrete planning. “We talk about artificial intelligence, but we struggle to connect to the internet,” he said, adding: “We don’t know what should be done, but do something,” arguing that connectivity is now essential for efficiency, competitiveness and the experience of residents and tourists.
