San Benedetto Opens Eco-Station to Boost Waste Recycling Goals
The new recycling center for waste separation in San Benedetto was inaugurated in recent days. Vice-mayor Carlo Nosè and Environmental Delegate Mauro Silva attended the ceremony, which was also open to several elementary school classes from the local district.
Interventions and goals of the administration
“This facility completes the administration’s project, aimed at promoting environmental education,” said Nosè. “Soon, and also with the support of the Consorzio di Bacino, public meetings will be organized to better inform the public that waste separation is no longer a choice but a necessity.”
The two eco-islands, one located in the historic center at Campo Sportivo and this one in San Benedetto, are part of a single project, which had an initial bid of 450 million euros, financed by the Municipality with a significant contribution of 150 million euros from the Regione.
Participation and future objectives
“Regional assessore Massimo Giorgietti was unable to attend, but it is important to highlight the role of the competent regional department,” Silva stated.
“The goal we aim for, now that the main district of the area has been equipped with the ecological platform, is to surpass the 18% threshold of waste separation relative to the total.”
“This remains a respectable percentage, considering that Peschiera is a tourist center, and the population increase during the summer does not correspond to a higher waste separation rate, because tourists, regardless of what is said, are much less attentive to environmental issues than our fellow citizens.”
Operating hours and location
The eco-island is already operational: it is open on Wednesday and Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm, and on Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm.
“We also believe we have chosen a good location, not only because the area is practically adjacent to the residential center,” Silva commented.
