San Giorgio Thermal Water Mystery: New Drilling Set for Spring

Unusual geological anomaly or the presence of “hot liquid” that could be significant for tourism, potentially leading to thermal exploitation? The mystery of the water temperature being considerably higher than normal — casually discovered in San Giorgio four years ago during a drilling operation aimed at other purposes — is surely set to be unveiled this coming spring.

Among the resolutions signed at the end of the year by the Province Council, there is also the one allocating approximately 150 million euros for the new drilling. The assessment of the necessary operation — which involves returning to extract samples from 200 meters depth and precisely examining both the water temperature and its actual quantity — has been prepared by the Province’s geologist, Ernesto Santuliana.

Dr. Santuliana will of course be tasked with overseeing the operations even after the project has been contracted to one of the specialized companies capable of performing the drilling. The new survey — which also interests private citizens from Arcenico, who declare themselves ready to exploit the potential presence of thermal water for tourism — had been scheduled several times but always postponed due to various issues (landslides, floods, etc.) that kept the Province’s geological service in emergency mode.

Now is the right time. The mystery has its days numbered.
