San Martino in Calle Supports Leprosy Patients and Brazil Projects

With the dollars donated by friends of San Martino in Calle, Sister Bruna Imelda alleviates the suffering of leprosy patients and the poor of Marituba, in the State of Pará, Brazil.

Just recently, a letter arrived explaining what she plans to do and how she will use the contribution, sent directly to the sister by the lacisiense association.

The letter was received by the new president of the group, Maria Fiorella Azzan, directly and personally from the sister who has been living in Brazil for many years and who left her family, friends, and benefactors in Lazise.

Yes, because the Lazise community maintains a direct link with Sister Bruna Imelda, sending her many offerings collected in the parish, both individually and from some social organizations.

Projects and objectives of the mission

“With this money,” writes Sister Bruna Imelda, “I will be able to build wooden houses for the poorest families in the area, and I will also be able to contribute directly to the support of children born into poverty.”

The poverty in Marituba is tangible, and every small contribution, even the most modest, can become a powerful vehicle of salvation for many little lives.

However, San Martino in Calle is also working to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate who live in the comfort of the Lacisiense society.

“The poverty of the twenty-first century,” affirms the president, “is often hidden, not as visible as in Brazil, but no less important or heartbreaking.”

“Our society is one of opulence,” she continues, “but it is also a society of suffering, loneliness, and moral and personal decline.

For this reason, we want to keep a vigilant eye and a special focus on social issues, on particular situations in our country, increasing the ranks of volunteers who dedicate themselves to the ‘last,’ to those who have no ‘voice.’”

Renewal of social roles and new projects

During the last board meeting of the association, the renewal of the social roles for the 2000-2002 triennium took place, and it was decided to contribute to the purchase of a leisure center for the elderly residents of the local nursing home.

Here are the new social roles: Maria Fiorella Azzali president, Matteo Cipriani vice-president; Claudio Marai secretary; Sante Pasqualini treasurer.

Azzali Anna Elisa, Tomezzoli Adalisa, Broetto Raffaella, Bernori Stefania, Nicolis Clara, Gandini Silvia, and Faccioli Giovanni are the members of the board.
