Starting from May 6, new disruptions to traffic are expected along the route between Desenzano and Brescia due to the resumption of the renovation works on the “San Zeno” tunnel in Lonato, located along the State Road 11 bypass. The works, which began on January 20, had resulted in the complete closure of the tunnel, but were suspended on April 19 to mitigate the impact on the main communication route towards the lower Garda during the holiday period. Currently, traffic is allowed day and night, preventing complications for motorists, but this situation will be temporary.
From May 6, the “San Zeno” tunnel will be closed again for an estimated period of nine months, from 8 PM to 7 AM, until January 20, 2026. This pause has provided relief for residents of the mini-bypass on Via Montebello, who had faced long queues in the preceding months. During the first phase of the works, civil engineering tasks were completed and the lighting system was renewed; now, the focus will shift to resurfacing the pavement and sidewalks to further enhance the safety and efficiency of the tunnel.
